The ACMA cabling licence is a nationally recognized training course providing the required skills and knowledge needed for installing and maintaining telecommunications cabling in buildings and premises, meeting the criteria and standards of the Australian Communications Media Authority (ACMA) Open Cabler Registration.

The cabling licence course is an appropriate career entry path for candidates in the growing telecommunications domain. This course will cover both the ACMA Open Rule and the ACMA Restricted Rule to impart the students the necessary skills and updated applicable Training.
This course is for those looking to obtain the Open Registration. It is the best starting point for work within the Telecommunications Industry (on either the Customer Premises or Carrier Network).Once obtained, the Open Registration License covers various aspects of customer premises cabling, such as
Telecommunications, Security Systems, and Fire Protection. After completion of this course, you will receive a statement of attainment which is used to apply for an Open Registration (previously known as the Austel Licence). You will also need to undertake supervised work experience on relevant cabling in order to gain the Open Registration. For details regarding the application requirements for obtaining an Open Registration, please contact ACMA or one of ACMA’s approvedregistrars.Since1st July 2012, the Open Registration only covers telephony cabling, therefore in order to work with Structured Cabling (Cat 5 and above), Coaxial Cabling, or Optical Fibre, you will need to gain endorsements on the open registration licence through further training.
The open cabling registration course will teach all the aspects of working safely to Australian Communications and Media Authority’s ‘Open’ Cabling Provider Rules, installing multiple telephone lines, Â multi-pair cables and backbone cabling, inclusive of terminating at socket outlets and termination modules and distributors, testing and compliance checks, and completing cabling documentation.
When applying for an open cabling license, you must additionally present proof of completing 360 hours of practical cabling work.
Duration and delivery mode: This course will be delivered in 5 face-to-face full day training sessions at one of the MILCOM training centres or at a mutually convenient and suitable location, for a sufficiently large group of participants.

- install cabling from socket to socket within a customer premises
- detail the ACMA cabling licence requirements

- recognise the requirement of a Telecommunications Reference Conductor and understand the correct methods of equipotential bonding according to the ACMA Technical Standards
