Skill 2 and Skill 3

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to install underground telecommunications cabling, including trenching, conduit installation, hauling cable, and reinstating the work site. It focuses on safe work practices, environmental considerations, and compliance with industry standards.

This unit applies to telecommunications technicians working on civil and infrastructure projects involving underground cable installation.

Learners will learn to:

  • Interpret plans, drawings, and job specifications
  • Conduct site inspections and risk assessments
  • Identify underground services using appropriate methods
  • Select and use tools, equipment, and PPE
  • Install conduits and underground pathways
  • Haul and install underground cabling safely
  • Protect cables from environmental and mechanical damage
  • Backfill and reinstate work sites to required standards
  • Complete testing, documentation, and reporting

Upon successful completion, students will receive a statement of attainment
