Course Overview

This qualification is designed for individuals seeking formal training and assessment in the telecommunications industry, including those currently working in the sector who wish to upskill or cross-skill.

The Certificate III in Telecommunications Network Build and Operation prepares learners for employment in the construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of high-speed broadband infrastructure, with a particular focus on the National Broadband Network (NBN) and associated telecommunications technologies.

The qualification reflects the role of telecommunications operators who undertake technical tasks related to the rollout, integration, testing, maintenance, and remediation of broadband network services. Graduates are equipped with practical skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively within telecommunications environments in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

On successful completion of this qualification, graduates will have the skills and knowledge to:

  • Install, maintain, and remediate telecommunications network infrastructure
  • Diagnose and rectify faults across copper and fibre networks
  • Perform network build and operational activities in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Work independently or as part of a team within telecommunications projects
  • Comply with relevant work health and safety (WHS), environmental, and regulatory requirements

Graduates may work under limited supervision and are expected to apply established procedures and technical solutions in a range of network environments.

On successful completion of all required units, a student will be issued with a qualification certificate and transcript of results. If a student does not complete all units required, they will be issued with a statement of attainment.

ICTWHS204 Follow Work Health and Safety and ICTTEN208 Use electrical skills when working with telecommunications networks are pre-requisite units of competency for both, ICTCBL246 Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Restricted Rule and ICTCBL247 Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Open Rule
