Course Overview

This course provides participants with the mandatory work health and safety (WHS) knowledge required to work in the construction industry. It equips learners with the skills to identify hazards, apply basic risk control measures, follow emergency procedures, and correctly select and use personal protective equipment (PPE).

Successful completion meets the general construction induction training requirements (White Card) across all Australian states and territories.

This unit satisfies legislative requirements under:

  • Model Work Health and Safety Regulations
  • WA Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996
  • Victoria Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007

Participants must complete site-specific induction training before commencing work on any construction site.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit. Relevant work health and safety state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm jurisdictional requirements.

On successful completion of the course and assessment requirements, participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs.

A White Card will also be issued out to you via mail.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify work health and safety (WHS) legislative requirements relevant to working in the construction industry.
  • Recognise common construction hazards and orally report them in accordance with workplace procedures.
  • Explain basic risk control measures, including the hierarchy of controls, to minimise the risk of injury or harm.
  • Follow workplace procedures for responding to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations.
  • Select and correctly fit common personal protective equipment (PPE) used in construction work.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices to protect themselves and others on a construction site.

State Recognition

This White Card  is accepted in every state.

All states and territories have agreed to implement the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work which has been declared by Safe Work Australia.

The result is a nationally consistent approach to construction induction training given to workers across Australia. It will also means that White Cards from any Australian state or territory are recognised nationally.
