Course Overview

The Power Awareness course is designed to ensure participants meet telecommunications industry safety requirements through the development and application of safe work practices when installing and maintaining above- and below-ground telecommunications cabling.

This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely work in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus while performing telecommunications cabling activities on or near electricity supply structures, in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards, codes of practice, and workplace procedures.

The course is appropriate for individuals entering the telecommunications industry, as well as workers seeking to update or formalise their competency in power awareness and electrical safety.

On successful completion of the course and assessment requirements, participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify electrical hazards
  • Apply relevant WHS/OHS legislation
  • Assess risks and implement control measures
  • Demonstrate safe work practices
  • Recognise electricity supply structures and components
  • Respond appropriately to electrical incidents or emergencies

Note

HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a prerequisite unit to UETDRMP010Provide first aid in an ESI environment and UETDRMP017 Perform Pole Top Rescue

The sequence of delivery for these units will not be changed
