Course Overview

This qualification represents the role of people in various community settings and people’s homes who offer assistance in a way that enables individuals with disabilities to attain higher levels of wellbeing independence self-reliance and community involvement.

In addition to working independently and without direct supervision employees support a person-centered approach and may contribute to an individualized plan. They might have to manage and/or oversee a small group of people.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

You will learn how to:

  • support procedures for providing direct client care.
  • provide services that are person-centered.
  • put strategies in place for individuals with complex needs.
  • boost involvement in the community.
  • improve interaction. follow the law and moral principles.
  • efficiently connect with others.

Work Placement Requirement:
Individuals are required to complete 120 hours of work placement within the disability sector
If you are already employed within the Disability sector, you may be able to attend work placement at your place of employment.
If not, our Placement team will happily support you into an appropriate work placement.

On successful completion of the course and assessment requirements, participants will be issued a Qualification Certificate and Transcript of Record in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). If a student does not complete all units required, they will be issued a statement of attainment for the units completed.

Entry Requirements

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) OR
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) OR
  • CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.
  • Depending on the placement provider, students may also need to obtain a Working with Children Check; and a NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • Milcom Institute has the following admission requirements:
  • LLN and Pre-training review are required to be completed to assist in identifying whether this qualification is appropriate for the education and employment aspirations of the target learner and to identify student’s needs for additional support during their study.
