Back Ground
NBN ( National Broadband Network) Australia has already decided to upgrade parts of its fibre-to-the-curb (FTTC) footprint to full-fibre, despite the technology is considered to be gigabit-capable. A comprehensive plan to make “full-fibre upgrades available on-demand to eligible customers living or working in premises currently served by FTTC.”
The 288 locations across the country collectively cover 900,000 premises. Although NBN Co previously announcing two 100,000-premises, it now has 1.1 million premises that may qualify for a free full-fibre upgrade. The ambitious up-gradation plan calls for trained telecommunication technicians who can play a catalytic role to implement the mega project.
What is nbn™ Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) connection?
To power your nbn™ FTTC service with electricity and provide your connection to the nbn™ network, an nbn™ connection box is usually installed inside your home or business. It is typically used in circumstances where Fibre is extended close to your premises, connecting to a small Distribution Point Unit (DPU), usually fixed inside a pit on the road. From here, the existing available copper network is connected to the Fibre to form the final nbn™ connection.
MILCOM – Leadership in Telecommunication Training
The rapid progress of the internet and technology have changed the dynamics and growth of the telecommunication sector. Today the industry needs trained telecommunication technicians and engineers to meet the challenges, service the customers, and troubleshoot the contingency out of technical failures. Employers and companies ( telecommunication service providers) looking for a technician with prior ground working experience or a well-rounded professional with formal training and qualification from an institution like MILCOM.
MILCOM offers telecommunication training with specially designed training modules and certifications to make you a well-rounded technician. It also provides an option to combine your Telecommunications and Technical Security orientation to achieve a Dual-Qualification. These qualifications are an excellent fit for people just starting out in the industry looking to get a well-rounded education or those experienced people looking to formalize and improve their skills with a recognized qualification.
MILCOM FTTC course: NBN enable Skills 1,2,3,5, and 16 is designed for on-ground technical staff keen to work on NBN Fibre to the curb (FTTC) network and achieve NBN enabled skills to 1,2,3, 5 and 16 to service the customers. The course content systematically explains the skill and knowledge requirement to tactfully handle jumper metallic conductor wire in access network cabinets or exchange distribution frames. It may also apply to new or existing jumpering for upgrades or rearrangement of network cabling for convergence to next-generation networks (NGN).
All jumpering in access network distribution cabinets are usually conducted by technicians authorized by the network owner to undertake the special mission. The specially designed course is the best bet for line workers, technicians and jointers involved in day to day indoor and outdoor distribution frame jumpering.
It also enables the technicians to apply logical fault-finding techniques according to all safety requirements and work practices. It also teaches the technicians how to joint metallic, conductor wire on the service provider side of the network in communications applications. It includes digital and analogue, telephony, data, video, digital broadcasting, computer networks, local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and multimedia. These are the few highlights of the course content customized for aspiring career seekers in the telecommunication sector.
MILCOM FTTC course: NBN enable Skills 1,2,3,5 and 16 – Training Objective
Once you complete the course, we expect you to perform the following functions independently under immediate supervision.
- Plan and carry out and finalize jumpering activity
- Prepare, install, Terminate, seal and secure aerial cable
- Construct aerial to underground transition
- Joint metallic conductor cable for access network
- Protect and alarm cable
- test telecommunications networks to identify faults
- identify and rectify recurrent faults
- conduct and report on a fault-finding task in a telecommunications network
- use systematic and logical fault-finding techniques in telecommunications networks and field-testing procedures.
MILCOM is an institution that shows many concerns and flexibility to the trainees and candidates willing to join the course. The time duration for the MILCOM FTTC course is comprising of six days in campus training sessions. We show a lot of flexibility by organizing this training session not only on our campus but also in a convenient location that suits the participants in the course, provided there is a large number of participants available on the given site.
