This qualification prepares an individual for entry into the telecommunications industry and its convergent technologies, including radio, optical, data and internet protocol (IP) networks.
This qualification reflects the role of an operator in the telecommunications industry who can apply a broad range of competencies using a defined range of skills where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection, installation and configuration of equipment in convergence technologies that integrate radio, optical and internet protocol (IP) based applications. .
This role includes assessing installation requirements, planning and performing installations, testing installed equipment and fault finding. It involves a degree of autonomy and may include some supervision of others. Work is performed according to known routines and procedures and there is some accountability for the quality of outcomes.
The qualification has a generic outcome if no specialisation has been undertaken. When a specialisation has been selected then the qualification has one of the following outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to

  • comply with environmental regulations and improve resource efficiency
  • connect up, test and verify DC and AC circuitry, evaluate analog and digital signals, and perform cable selection
  • operate hand and power tools
  • install an IP device
  • conduct work in line with WHS practice and regulations
  • deliver a service to customers
  • manage remote power feed, install cables and protective earth wires
  • install telecommunications network and equipment, configure and test system
  • haul and install underground cable

After completion of this course and all assessments, you will be issued with the Nationally Recognised Qualification ICT30515 Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology. For successful completion of this course, you need to complete and demonstrate competency in these units of competency:

Note 1 - Due to some units having prerequisite requirements the sequence of delivery will not varied for those units.

Note 2 - Only one Stream can be selected as part of the qualification. Extra units can be completed at additional cost.

Course Duration and Delivery Method

This qualification is delivered as blended learning with face-to-face sessions held at the MILCOM training centre over 12-36 months (not including holiday breaks). Learners will work through course material with a trainer and complete assessments during class and during non-class allocated time. Classes may be scheduled at alternative, mutually convenient and suitable locations and can be contextualised for a sufficiently large groups of participants.
