Installation and Maintenance (Advanced)(Meets Telstra Standards)

This advanced installation and maintenance course is designed for you to achieve the required skills and knowledge to test the performance of equipment on customer premises for the purpose of commissioning, fault identification or routine maintenance, in line with current Telstra standards. It includes ensuring a safe and secure work environment while work is being undertaken. The cable types may be telecommunications, voice or data cabling and covers modifying an infrastructure to cut over new cables into an existing cabling installation. This may include communications applications in telephony, broadband, data, video, radio frequency identification (RFID), security and computer networks, including local area networks (LAN), wide area networks group based on details provided in a service request. It involves identifying requirements and translating them into quantitative changes to network transmission and access systems. Note: Prior to attending this course, you need to have successfully completed MILCOM's CAN-27 Installation & Maintenance Basic course or show evidence you have previously achieved the following units of competency: ICTCBL2068A Install a telecommunications service to a building; ICTCBL2135A Joint metallic conductor cable in access network; and ICTCBL2016A Joint metallic conductor cable on customer premises.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • replace joints up to and including 30 Pair
  • install of customers’ standard lightning protection
  • locate and repair CAN faults using Enhanced Fault Location Equipment, including bearer of SPGS. (dc faults only – not ac/vf faults)
  • install and perform re-entry of XAGA 550 In Line Joints

Learning Methods

This course will be delivered in five full day face-to-face training sessions over five consecutive days in one of the MILCOM training centres or at a mutually convenient and suitable location, for a sufficiently large group of participants.
