Cable Hauling Course | Cable Hauling Training : Milcom

This course is designed for participants to achieve the required performance outcomes‚ skills and knowledge to haul underground cable‚ involving installation and recovery of cables, including multi-pair, coaxial and optical fibre in access networks or customer premises, in line with current Telstra standards.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • prepare for, conduct, and complete given work according to relevant legislation, codes, regulations and standards including cable installation standards
  • verify cable installation requirements from plan and recognise constraints
  • inform appropriate personnel of existing and potential hazards on worksite
  • obtain information on location of other services from relevant authorities
  • conduct work in accordance with required industry, safety and workplace standards
  • clean debris and obstructions from conduit using suitable safe methods
  • seal cable ends to exclude ingress of foreign matter
  • run hauling feeder through conduit to enable cable hauling following work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements
  • attach cable to hauling feeder according to manufacturer's specifications
  • employ cable slippers or rollers to ensure no sheath damage when hauling into and out of enclosures
  • lubricate cable and haul evenly at correct tension to reduce risk of cable damage
  • maintain sufficient cable length allowance for jointing

Learning Methods

This course will be delivered in one full day face-to-face training session in one of the MILCOM training centres or at a mutually convenient and suitable location‚ for a sufficiently large group of participants.
