NBN Skill 9 & 22 - DPU installation, integration and swap-out (FTTC-Construction)

The course is designed for copper cable jointers and fibre optic jointers and contractor communications technicians seeking to perform DPU integration work on the NBN FTTC network.
 
Description 
This course covers the processes and activities required to perform DPU integration work and handling fibre optics, with the assumption that students may not have been exposed to working with fibre previously. It also covers fibre inspection & cleaning, optical testing and the processes to install, swap-out and commission the DPU.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Fibre Basics 路 provides students with an overview of the NBN fibre network architecture 路 fibre safety and handling 路 recognising cable and connector types used for DPU integration 路 Inspection and cleaning of fibre connect
  • Testing 路 Testing to NBN specifications 路 Use network test equipment i.e. PON power meter, OTDR and visible light source
  • Installing the DPU 路 Installing a DPU in a pit 路 Mounting a DPU on a pole 路 Activation and commissioning the DPU 路 FTTC Fibre skills relevant to swapping out a DPU

Learning Methods

Assessments
At the completion of each training module or unit, students will undergo an assessment process to determine their knowledge and skill capability. Knowledge Assessments must be completed with a 100% pass mark and Skills Assessment will require a satisfactory level of performance to be assessed as satisfactory.
 
NBN enable Assessment
Where enrolled in enable for Skill 22 students will be required to complete the online assessment activity within the allocated timeframe. This online assessment process must be performed in the presence of your trainer. Other than observation, Milcom is not able to provide assistance to students during this process.

Students
Students attending training must have available:

  • Proof of identity
  • Suitable clothing and footwear (no singlets, shorts or thongs). Students not suitably attired will not be able to participate in the training
  • A laptop or tablet with WiFi enabled
  • Personal enable credentials
On successful completion, the student can gain enable accreditation for skill 9 & 22.
