CAB 11 - 2017 Aerial Cabling Endorsement


Aerial Cabling Endorsement

This course is designed for participants to achieve the required skills and knowledge to install aerial cable for customer and hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) networks. Participants will practice using basic rigging procedures, methods and equipment for working safely at heights and get introduced to formal documentation requirements as applicable to outdoor installation relevant to domestic, commercial or industrial installations. Communications applications include digital and analogue, telephony, data, video, digital broadcasting, computer networks, local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN) and multimedia. It is recommended that participants already hold the Open Registration Licence or have completed the Open Registration course before attending this course.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • prepare for given work according to relevant legislation, codes, regulations and standards including safe work practices
  • arrange access to the site according to required procedure and liaison with local authorities
  • verify aerial cable support installation requirements according to the appropriate plans and recognise constraints
  • set up cable support installation equipment according to manufacturer's requirements and enterprise guideline
  • select type of aerial cable support for catenary wire installation
  • use basic rigging procedures, methods and equipment for working safely at heights
  • construct support foundations to specifications and provide safe and secure operation of support structure
  • install aerial cable supports securely following work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements according to plan and manufacturer's specifications
  • reinstate site to identified requirements, complete reports on installation and design amendments and file according to enterprise requirements, notify customer and obtain sign off

Learning Methods

This course will be delivered in two full day face-to-face training sessions, on consecutive days in one of the MILCOM training centres or at a mutually convenient and suitable location, for a sufficiently large group of participants.
